My love of using glass as an artistic medium began when I started working with stained glass. Soon, I found that glass enabled my artistic expression. After a few years of designing and producing leaded glass doors, windows and ornaments the natural progression for me was the move to kiln formed art glass-fused glass, and creating lampwork glass beads, which lead to making jewellery with my bead creations.
My work flows from my formal training in art history. Specifically, my unique fused glass designs explore my fascination with modern art movements. Pop art, expressionism, abstract, and deco styles not only inspire me but shape and stimulate my creativity. I am motivated by combining elements of these styles, and utilizing colour to define shape with glass as my medium. I am fascinated by the artistic style Henri Matisse and Frank Lloyd Wright’s geometric designs. I take inspiration for my lampwork beads from nature, the natural world and primitive designs. In addition, modern art makes a contribution to my bead designs.
I feel that glass as an artistic medium demonstrates the remarkable ability to capture dimension in a flat space, and creating an illusion of texture with colour and light.
"When people see my work, I'd like them to feel a connection with modern art while enjoying a personal association with a particular design, colour arrangement and the uniqueness of my pieces".
I produce stained glass, kiln formed artwork and jewellery with my lampwork beads at my home studio on Vancouver Island, BC.
